I am now sitting here at a Cliffside café (Freedom Café) overlooking the Ganges in Rishikesh, just north of Hardiwar.

Last I wrote about how we were headed to Haridwar for the Kumbh Mela. On our way to Muzaffarnagar, we stopped off at a fair in Surajkund. This festival happens yearly in which different regions come to celebrate their cultures. Here I found some performers – magician and tight rope walkers. This turned into some good photo opportunities. We ate here and headed to Muzaffarnagar.






We got to Muzaffaranagar and our plan was to spend the night there and head to Haridwar the morning of the 12th for Maha Shivratri, one of the reasons I headed to India. I went to bed around 3:30 a.m. and awoke around 4 with a massive stomach ache – I had food poisioning. The rest of the night and next morning consisted of vomiting. Needless to say, I wasn’t able to make it to Haridwar on the 12th.



On the 13th we headed to Haridwar, which was at this time empty in comparison. I did manage to get some good shots, but did not find the naga-sadhu’s that I wanted to photograph. These sadhus are rarely seen – will have to come back to Kumbh in 3 years I guess.






Now we are at Rishikesh and will spend some time here today and head back to Haridwar for a bit more photography and then back to Delhi.
